How to fix Chat Bubbles issues in Android 11

Chat bubbles are one of the Android 11 features that excite me. You don’t need to open the messaging app and scroll to another app to reply to a message. It looks like a godsend. Sadly, many Android 11 users cannot use chat bubbles. Does the chat bubble or chat avatar not work properly on the phone? do not worry. We explored 7 effective solutions to fix chat bubbles that cannot be used normally on phones running Android 11.

When someone talks about chat bubbles, I believe you will think of Facebook Messenger first. Because Facebook Messenger is officially the first application to use the chat header. This feature has been available in FB Messenger for many years.

With Android 11, you can use it with other messaging apps. Let’s see if you can make chat bubbles available to other apps in Android 11. But before that, you need to understand the chat bubble.

WHAT ARE CHAT BUBBLES

Traditionally, when you tap the notification, the app will open in full-screen mode. Therefore, take you away from the actual application.

The chat bubble can float on top of the application you are currently using, so you can perform multitasking. Whenever you receive a message notification, you can continue to open the notification in the chat bubble and use existing applications. When you do this, a floating application window will open. When texting, the floating application window will be interrupted and bubbles will appear. Tapping the bubble will open the chat screen again.

1. CHECK SOFTWARE VERSION

Before starting troubleshooting, we recommend that you check the software version of your Android phone. The chat bubble requires at least Android 11 to run. Therefore, if your phone is running on Android 9 or 10, you won’t get this feature.

To check the software version of your phone, go to “Settings”> “About”. You will see a number under the Android version label. If it’s Android 11, you need to check if there are any pending updates on your phone.

2. RESTART PHONE

If you have just installed Android 11 but have not yet seen the chat bubble, you should restart your phone properly.

3. UPDATE APPS

After updating your phone’s software, make sure to update all applications on your phone, especially messaging applications. To update all apps, launch the Google Play Store and open the sidebar on the left. Click on my apps and games. Click on all app updates.

4. APPS SUPPORTING CHAT BUBBLES

You should note that the chat bubble function can be used in most messaging applications, such as Telegram, Android Message, Facebook Messenger, etc. It is clear that the messaging app should officially support chat bubbles on phones running Android 11. Application developers first need to implement support for the chat bubble function before they can use it.

At the time of writing this article, only a few apps support this feature, and it will change soon. These applications include Telegram, Facebook Messenger, and Android Message (also only in beta). WhatsApp does not support this feature yet.

5. ENABLE CHAT BUBBLES FUNCTIONALITY

To use chat bubbles, you need to enable a global setting, followed by enabling it in the individual apps as shown in the next solution. Here we will tell you how to enable the chat bubbles functionality on Android 11.

Step 1: Open Settings on your Android 11 phone. Go to Apps & notifications.

Step 2: Tap on Notifications. You will find the Bubbles set. Tap on it.

Step 3: Enable the toggle next to ‘Allow apps to show bubbles.’

6. ENABLE CHAT BUBBLES IN APP SETTINGS

You need to enable the feature in the respective apps as well. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open Settings on your phone and go to Apps.

Step 2: Under All apps, tap on the app for which you want to enable chat bubbles. Let’s say Telegram. Tap on Telegram.

Step 3: Tap on Notifications inside Telegram. Then tap on Bubbles.

7. USE CHAT BUBBLES IN PROPER MANNER

Once the chat bubble settings are enabled, you can use them. To do this, when you receive a notification from a messaging application, you must open the notification panel. You will find the chat bubble icon in the lower right corner of the notification. Click on it to open a floating chat window.

If you have not found the icon, click the small arrow on the notification. Then click the chat bubble icon.

After the bubble is activated, all new messages you receive in the app will be displayed as bubble notifications. Tap the bubble to open the message in a floating window. Click anywhere outside the window to collapse the window.

To close the current dialog bubble or stop the chat bubble, click Manage at the bottom of the floating window.

CHAT BUBBLES FOREVER

Now that you know how the chat bubble of the messaging application does not work and how to solve it, you can choose what to use. Although they are extremely convenient for multitasking, you can also interact in a smart way.

If you keep your Samsung phone, you can use the floating chat head without Android 11. Samsung phones are called smart pop-up views. To enable it, go to “Settings”> “Advanced Features”> “Smart Popups”. Then enable the application to use the feature. You can use the smart pop-up view to use the chat header for WhatsApp.
