According to the latest report, Samsung began providing training to technicians through the Samsung Software Youth Academy (SSAFY) in 2018 and is continuing to train homegrown computer software developers as part of its corporate social responsibility activities.
The company recently announced that it will be recruiting trainees for the second half of 2022 at SSAFY from May 2 to May 16. From July, SSAFY will select a total of 1,150 students across five campuses across the country for a one-year software training course.

The program admits students twice a year, with 500 students enrolled in December 2018, and the number of students has grown steadily since then. Since the first half of this year, the number of trainees has increased to 1,150.
SSAFY is Samsung’s corporate social responsibility project sponsored by the Ministry of Employment and Labor to expand the domestic information technology (IT) ecosystem and improve the competitiveness of young job seekers. In order to invigorate the economy and create more jobs, Samsung decided to implement the plan in August 2018.
Moreover, job seekers and prospective graduates under the age of 29 with a 4-year college degree, regardless of major, can apply. Participants can apply to any of the 5 campuses in Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gumi, and Busan.
SSAFY’s goal is to produce software developers who are ready for immediate enterprise employment through 1,600 hours of intensive computer software education per year. All courses are free, and all trainees receive 1 million won ($803) in educational support every month.
The program offers young job seekers the opportunity to get IT jobs in well-known companies. Samsung said that a total of 2,785 students completed the course, of which 2,326 were employed in more than 700 companies, with an employment rate of 84%. They have worked in major information technology (IT) companies such as Samsung, Naver, Kakao, Coupang, Shinsegae I&C, LG CNS, Rakuten Datacom.
To help SSAFY students grow into software developers, Samsung’s software developers also participate in training sessions as mentors. About 90 mentors will provide software learning methods, development experience, and career counseling, the company said.
