This week, Intel released version 1.0 of its open-source codec for CPUs, SVT-AV1, for all modern processors. AV1 is an open-source video codec jointly developed by Google, Amazon, Cisco, Apple, Microsoft, Intel, etc. The purpose is to provide a more efficient compression rate than H.265 and reduce the cost of data storage and network transmission.
Moreover, SVT-AV1 is an extensible standards-agnostic encoder/decoder library that can take advantage of the multi-core nature of modern CPUs and AVX2 instructions. In version 1.0, SVT-AV1 has several improvements:

Added CBR rate control mode for low latency

Extended fast decoding support to cover presets M0-M10

Furthermore, the Intel SVT-AV1 library supports 5th generation Core and above CPUs and can be used under macOS, Windows and Linux. Launched by Intel and Netflix together, the release of SVT-AV1 version 1.0 marks a milestone in the development of the codec.
In addition, Intel’s Ruixuan independent display supports full AV1 hardware acceleration for the first time, which is 50 times faster than software acceleration. Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci, and other software have supported AV1 hardware acceleration such as Intel.
