SK Hynix announced it will provide 24Gb DDR5 samples

SK Hynix announced that it will provide samples of 24Gb DDR5 with the largest single DRAM chip capacity in the industry.

DDR (Double Data Rate) is the name of the DRAM specification standard specified by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC), and DDR1-2-3-4-5 is a replacement for its order. The commonly used DDR DRAM capacities in the industry are mainly 8Gb and 16Gb, and the maximum capacity is 16Gb.

Moreover, SK Hynix launched the world’s first DDR5 product in October last year, and then unveiled its largest-capacity product 1 year and 2 months later. The 24Gb DDR5 product adopts the fourth-generation 10-nanometer (1a) technology of the EUV process.

Compared with the second-generation 10-nanometer (1y) DDR5 product, the single-chip capacity has been increased from 16Gb to 24Gb, thereby improving production efficiency and increasing its speed up to 33%.

At the same time, the SK Hynix technical team reduced its power consumption by 25% compared with the previous generation product (the power consumption of the system required to drive the same capacity module), and effectively reduced energy consumption by improving production efficiency.

The company believes that through this product, it can expect to achieve achievements at the level of carbon emission reduction, and it will also have greater significance at the level of ESG management.

The new product will be launched in two modules48GB (Gigabyte) and 96GB, and will be provided to Cloud data centers. It is also expected to be used for big data processing such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, and to build high-performance servers such as Metaverse.

Vice President Carolyn Duran, Director of Memory and IO Technology of Intel’s Data Center and AI Department, said: “Intel and SK Hynix have had a long-term and close cooperation. The 24Gb solution provided by the two parties is to satisfy mutual customers. Another deed of demand. 24Gb DDR5 provides a higher single chip capacity, which helps customers improve the performance of workloads limited by memory capacity, such as data analysis while bringing a huge total cost of ownership advantage.”

Lu Zhongyuan, SK Hynix President and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) said: “According to the 24Gb DDR5 product launch plan, we are closely cooperating with many customers of cloud services. In the future, we will also use more cutting-edge technology and ESG. The development of products with advantages at different levels will consolidate its leading position in the continuously expanding DDR5 market.”
