One UI 7 brings a simple Now Bar to Galaxy S23, but it’s better on Galaxy S24

The One UI 7 beta 1 update has arrived for the Galaxy S23 series, introducing the Now Bar feature. However, it feels a bit basic compared to what the Galaxy S24 series offers. Now Bar lets you check live updates from key apps right on your lock screen. It’s handy for staying on top of things like timers, voice recordings, sports updates, and more without unlocking your phone.
These live updates also show up on the home screen and in the notification area. The style and options are mostly the same across these spots, just displayed in different places. The feature first rolled out with the One UI 7 beta for Galaxy S24 users. After trying it out, I noticed it has some cool extras that go beyond a simple description.
For instance, the Music Now Bar on the lock screen includes buttons for skipping tracks, going back, or pausing— all tucked into a small bar at the bottom. Tap it, and it grows bigger, letting you jump straight to the app with another touch. On the Galaxy S24, Now Bar settings offer about 10 live update options, like media players, maps, interpreter, and emergency sharing.
The Galaxy S23, though, only gets four options so far. You’ll also see that the media player is listed among the live updates on the S23, while the S24 gives it a separate toggle. Even with fewer features, Now Bar works smoothly on the S23 for things like the clock, recorder, and other apps. Since this is still a beta version, we can look forward to more improvements in future updates.
To try it out, head to your phone’s settings, search for “Now Bar,” and adjust the options available. Samsung has shared that the full, stable version of One UI 7 will reach the Galaxy S23 series around April or May.
