According to the Wall Street Journal, a person familiar with the matter said that Panasonic is in talks with the Oklahoma state government to build a new $4 billion electric vehicle battery factory. Through the new factory, Panasonic will further increase production capacity and ensure the supply of batteries to Tesla and other electric vehicle makers.

In July this year, Panasonic announced a new power battery factory in Kansas, USA. This means that if this negotiation is successful, Panasonic will build a $4 billion battery factory in Oklahoma on top of the Kansas power battery factory.

According to the report, Panasonic believes that the electric vehicle battery production business will play a crucial role in its development, as consumers have begun to actively choose new energy vehicles. In addition, although Panasonic has been supplying batteries to Tesla for a long time, it has been slow to expand compared with South Korea’s LG New Energy and China’s CATL.
