Xiaomi responds to Geekbench’s “Xiaomi 11 performance

Geekbench co-founder John Poole claimed on Twitter that Xiaomi seems to be limiting performance based on the name of the application. Poole said that disguising Geekbench as Fortnite caused the Mi 11’s single-core performance score to drop by 30% and multi-core performance score by 15%.

Recently, the media Hardware Info received a statement from Xiaomi regarding the question: Xiaomi employs a temperature management strategy to ensure the best product experience, especially for demanding apps that are often used for extended periods of time.

On many devices, we offer 3 performance modes that allow users to adjust the balance between performance and energy efficiency. At the system level, all optimizations related to application performance weigh a number of fundamental factors such as power consumption, performance, and thermals.

Moreover, Poole posted comparison data. After the Geekbench of Xiaomi 11 was disguised as Fortnite, the data dropped from 1129 and 3714 to 791 and 3125. In addition, Poole claims that when Geekbench disguised itself as Genshin Impact, there was a similar drop in scores.

In March, benchmarking app Geekbench removed some Samsung Galaxy S-series phones, including the latest S22 series, from its list because its game-optimization service limited the performance of the phone’s CPU and GPU. Samsung responded to the question by saying it was doing this to increase battery life and prevent the phone from overheating.
