Preview: Windows 10 21H2, Microsoft seems to have dropped support for the old Edge browser

Windows 10 version 20H2 or later will force the installation of the new Microsoft Edge browser, whether the user wants it or not. However, the traditional or old Microsoft Edge is still included in the operating system, which means that Windows 10 comes with three different browsers pre-installed: Internet Explorer, the old Edge, and the new Edge.

In the new language pack released for the preview of Windows 10 21H2, Microsoft seems to have dropped support for the old Edge browser. The move appears to be part of Microsoft’s plan to remove the old version of Microsoft Edge when it releases the Fall 2021 update later this year.

Please note that the old version of Edge is still included in the preview, but the news indicates that Microsoft is trying to unify the web browsing experience on Windows. At some point, users will not be ready to access the old version of Microsoft Edge.

Now Windows 10 is furnished with the latest version of Microsoft Edge, and the user data of the old version of the browser will be carried over during the first setup experience.

Microsoft has confirmed that the original Edge browser will stop supporting in March and encourage users to use the new version of Microsoft Edge, which is based on Chromium and focuses on security and performance.

However, the ‘EdgeHTML’ engine integration in Windows and some other Edge-related services will not be removed soon.

Microsoft also plans to make the Internet Explorer browser obsolete by cutting more features. According to the roadmap, Microsoft 365 services and online applications will no longer support Internet Explorer 11.

In the other words, if you try to access these services in Internet Explorer, you will be redirected to Chromium Edge. Users can still use Internet Explorer to manage Microsoft accounts, but many functions will not be available.

Now when Internet Explorer users try to visit popular websites such as YouTube or Disney, Microsoft has redirected them to Chromium Edge.
