New Android 16 trick could make DeX even handier

Samsung DeX is a big reason why Galaxy phone and tablet fans love their devices. It turns your phone into a full computer, giving you a desktop-style setup for getting more done. While One UI 7.0 didn’t bring any DeX upgrades, One UI 8.0 might shake things up, thanks to some cool new features in Android 16.
Android 16 Could Boost Samsung DeX with Smarter Screen Control
Google’s latest test version of Android 16 (Beta 2.1) seems to make handling extra screens better. A report from Android Authority says you can now slide the cursor or even windows between your phone’s screen and a connected monitor. That means moving stuff back and forth is a breeze. Plus, you can now set up how your phone and monitor line up. For example, if your phone sits on the left and the monitor’s on the right, you can tweak the settings to match that setup in Android 16.
Switch Between Screen Modes Easily
With Android 16 Beta 2.1, there’s a new option to pick how your screens work. You can extend the display, letting your phone and monitor show different things—like running some apps on your phone and others on the big screen. Or, you can mirror them, so whatever’s on your phone shows up on the monitor, too.
On top of that, Android now lets you change icon and text sizes, just like on Macs, PCs, or Linux machines. There’s also talk that Google’s working on letting you adjust screen refresh rates separately for your phone and monitor.
When Will We See This?
The first official Android 16 release might not include these tricks. But Google has promised a big update in mid-2025, packed with extras, and these desktop-style improvements could arrive then. For Galaxy fans, this could make DeX even more useful, turning your phone into an even smarter work buddy.
