Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra gets high repair score, but falls short of iPhone

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has received a notable repair score from iFixit, making it one of the most repair-friendly Samsung phones in recent years. This nod from iFixit highlights Samsung’s response to consumer demands for easier repairs.

When you look inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra, you’ll find four easy tabs that allow you to remove the battery without much hassle. This design choice seems to align with Europe’s new Right to Repair laws, showing Samsung is moving in the right direction for repairability.

However, the phone still uses a lot of glue, which can make opening it up a bit sticky. This glue can complicate repairs, making them messy or difficult. The camera setup on the S25 Ultra is designed for easier part replacements. If your camera needs fixing, you won’t rely solely on Samsung for parts, making repairs smoother and potentially cheaper.

According to iFixit, the S25 Ultra scores a 5 out of 10 on their repairability scale. This is better than most Samsung phones from the last ten years but doesn’t reach the repairability of some competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which scored a 7 out of 10. There’s potential for further improvement, and Samsung seems committed to enhancing repairability alongside other features.

On a less positive note, the S Pen in the Galaxy S25 Ultra no longer includes Bluetooth capabilities, stripping away features like remote control and Air Actions. Samsung explains this decision by noting that only a tiny fraction of users utilized these features. The removal might be linked to the adoption of Qi2 technology, which might conflict with existing Bluetooth functionality.

While this change might not bother everyday users, tech enthusiasts or frequent S Pen users might feel the downgrade. Overall, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra has made strides in repairability, it still has room to grow, especially when compared to industry leaders in this aspect.
