At Apple’s third-quarter earnings conference call yesterday, Apple’s chief financial officer said that iPad revenue in the fiscal quarter was $7.2 billion, although it fell 2% year-on-year due to supply chain issues, people are in high demand.

Today, the international data company IDC announced worldwide tablet shipments for the second quarter of 2022. Data shows that tablet shipments in the quarter reached 40.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 0.15%. Samsung followed closely with a shipment of 7.3 million units, with a market share of 18.1%, and a year-on-year decrease of 10.63%. The third place is Amazon, which shipped 5.5 million units, with a market share of 13.6%. Lenovo and Huawei ranked fourth and fifth with shipments of 3.5 million units and 2.1 million units respectively.

IDC said shipments in the quarter were higher than expected due to the “618” promotion in China and Amazon’s Prime Day event in the US. In addition to the above-mentioned top five brands, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and realme and other new brands in the tablet market also performed very well, which all contributed to the growth of the tablet market.

Anuroopa Nataraj, the senior research analyst at IDC, said that more and more people are using tablet computers as a replacement for PCs, which has further expanded the tablet market. Second, many vendors have done a very good job of distribution strategies and have been able to adequately supply tablets for the education market. In addition, the number of cheap tablets has proliferated, and some manufacturers are continuing to tap demand for equipment used in education.

Meanwhile, Chromebook shipments have been on a downward trend over the past few quarters, with only 6 million units shipped in the second quarter of 2022, down 51.4% year over year. IDC said the decline was to be expected due to overstocking and slowing demand. It is worth mentioning that Chromebook shipments are still higher than before the new crown epidemic.

IDC released a report yesterday saying that in the second quarter of 2022, China’s smartphone market shipments fell by 14.7% year on year. Honor, Vivo, OPPO, Xiaomi, and Apple top five, and Huawei leads the folding screen market.
