OnePlus OxygenOS 13 Revamped Nearby Share Feature

With OnePlus OxygenOS 13, the company will allow third-party developers to use the Nearby Share feature in their apps. Nearby Sharing is currently limited to sharing text or media files with nearby Android or Chromebook devices. However, the company wants to take Android 13 a step further so that addresses, images, or text can be transferred seamlessly to secondary devices like tablets.

Starting with Android 13, the clipboard overlay includes a close share button. It allows you to restore the copied text or URL to a nearby trusted device. Tap the Share button to open a window with a preview of the content you want to send and a list of nearby devices.

But Google’s ambitions for this feature are higher. The company shared the details at its I/O 2022 session titled “Building a Powerful Multi-Device Experience”.

The updated Near-Share lets Android users pick up where they left off on their tablet or Chromebook.
Practical examples of this feature include reading long articles on the big screen or paying for a movie rental on a TV on the phone. Google uses Nearby Share’s device discovery and verification process for “additional features”.

The company claims it allows apps to “connect to devices with a seamless experience” while protecting customer privacy. Google said early previews will be available this quarter.

OnePlus OxygenOS 13 revamped Nearby Sharing has been around for a while. And Google is adding new features along the way. At the moment, we did not have official confirmation about this feature but we know with stable Android 13 the company will roll out this feature.
