US operator T-Mobile starts to shut down 3G CDMA network

According to the latest report, T-Mobile once again postponed the date of Sprint’s 3G network shutdown. Originally scheduled for March 31, the new date is May 31.

However, a T-Mobile spokesperson said: “We are on schedule with an orderly shutdown of the CDMA network starting March 31. As part of the shutdown process, we are migrating customers in some regions over the next 60 days to ensure they are supported and the network will be available no later than Completely closed on May 31st.

This is a normal network transition process. We look forward to the end of this obsolete technology so that every customer can have the best connection and the best wireless experience.”

In addition to the shutdown of CDMA, T-Mobile also plans to end its 3G UMTS network by July 1 this year. There are also some delays to this date, with the initial closing date being October 1, 2021. Sprint’s LTE will also be shutting down on June 30 this year.

Moreover, T-Mobile also plans to shut down its old GSM 2G network, but no date has been set. The closure of these carrier networks is in the hope that consumers will gradually move to 4G and 5G networks.
