The iPhone 12 model is equipped with both a physical SIM card slot and a digital eSIM called dual SIM card, dual standby. This means that you can have two service lines on your iPhone, which is very useful for buying a data-only package when traveling abroad or having personal and business lines on an iPhone. So far, the dual-SIM mode is limited to LTE, but iOS 14.5 supports faster 5G on both lines.
Moreover, Apple is rolling out the iOS 14.5 updates for all iPhones that are capable of tapping into the 5G network. The new feature will begin rolling out to iPhone 12 users who will update to the latest iOS 14.5.
Besides, Apple has also improved the “Smart Data Mode” of the iPhone 12. A hidden option in the “Cellular” section of the “Settings” menu that can automatically switch phones between 5G and LTE based on which time period is better. iOS 14.5, should provide better battery life and performance than before.
STEPS:
- If you want to use 5G with Dual SIM on iPhone 12 models, make sure that you have iOS 14.5 or later.
- You can choose to always stream the highest quality content by going to Settings > Music > Cellular Data and turning on High-Quality Streaming and Settings > TV > Cellular and tapping High Quality. These settings use more cellular data, and content might take longer to start playing.
- If you turn on Low Power Mode, 5G is disabled except during video streaming. Low Power Mode also disables 5G Standalone where available.
If you don’t see 5G in the status bar
- Make sure that you’re in an area with 5G coverage. Contact your carrier if you’re not sure.
- Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options. If you see this screen, your device has 5G activated. If you don’t see this screen, contact your carrier to confirm that your plan supports 5G.
- Turn on Airplane Mode, then turn it off.
NOTE: If you still don’t have a 5G service, contact your carrier.
