Microsoft Edge browser will undergo a major update in 2021, ushering in Edge 88. Microsoft has revealed the upcoming features and changes in the new version in the Edge roadmap.
All of these features can be found in the Canary test channel of Microsoft Edge. For the public, these improvements will be rolled out from January to March.
Label warning
This new feature will display warning messages when you close multiple tabs.
Once enabled, users will see a pop-up message with two options: ‘Cancel’ and ‘Close all tabs’. If you don’t like this feature, you can choose “Don’t ask me again”.
Vertical label function
In Microsoft Edge 88, you can switch back and forth between vertical and horizontal tabs using the new button on the left. After activating the vertical tab user interface, your browsing tabs will be displayed vertically on the left.
You can also rearrange tags and use Chromium features, such as ‘tag groups’ or ‘tag search’.
Label preview
In January, Microsoft plans to provide support for the highly anticipated tab preview feature.
As the name suggests, the tag preview allows you to hover your mouse over the tag to see the website preview displayed under the mouse. The tab preview is especially useful when you have many tabs open at the same time.
The default PDF viewer
Microsoft Edge can now detect the default PDF viewer and direct users to applications on Windows 10.
PDF dictionary
Microsoft has confirmed that it is developing a new feature that will enable you to view instant pop-up definitions of selected words in PDF documents.
In addition, you can also use Edge’s new sidebar search, which basically allows you to access Bing without interrupting your browsing.
Flash player
After December 31, 2020, Adobe will terminate support for Flash Player on Windows, and the Flash plug-in will no longer play Flash content in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and other browsers.
Browser cookie
In Edge 88, you can delete third-party cookies without affecting the first-party cookies. You can also use filters to quickly find first-party or third-party cookies, and sort the list by name, a number of cookies, and data volume.
