Amazon launches Future Engineer computer science education project in India

Amazon is planning to extend its computer science project “Future Engineer” (Future Engineer) to India, which shows its growing interest in education in the world’s second-largest Internet market. The company stated in a recruitment copy that the preliminary research of Amazon’s future engineers is “currently underway.”

Through the plan, the aim is to bring computer science education to local children and young people, and the selected candidates will be responsible. Cooperate with local non-profit organizations and government officials.

The company said in a post that it plans to launch the project in India in 2021. The company stated in a press release earlier this week that the childhood to career program is currently operating in the United States, providing computer science coursework for more than 5,000 schools and 550,000 students.

“Amazon India pays special attention to providing equipment for children and young people from underserved and impoverished communities to build a better future for themselves,” the company said in its description. The US e-commerce giant has invested more than US$6.5 billion in India so far and has been exploring the field of education in India for several years.

Last year, it launched JEE Ready, an app designed to help students preparing to enter India’s famous technical college. JEE Ready was later renamed Amazon Academy, offering free online courses and analyzing students’ performance in simulation tests.

Amazon is not the only American company focusing on India’s growing education market. India has more than 260 million children in school, and most people view education as the key to economic progress and improving their lives.

Earlier this year, Facebook collaborated with the Central Council of Secondary Education (CBSE), a government agency that oversees private and public school education in India, to launch certification courses on digital security and cyber health and augmented reality for students and educators.

Facebook this year also invested in Unacademy, a startup company in Bangalore that provides online learning courses. This year, Google invested in Cuemath, an Indian educational technology start-up company.

It also cooperated with CBSE to train more than 1 million teachers in India and provided a series of free tools such as G Suite for Education, Google Classroom, and YouTube to help digitalize the educational experience in India.

Microsoft has also cooperated with many Indian government and industry organizations, including the National Skills Development Corporation and Nasscom, to help more than 1 million people improve their skills.
