Even in extreme weather conditions, SpaceX Starlink satellite can still provide at least 175Mbps data speed

Even in strong winds, blizzards, and even severe cold weather, the Starlink satellite Internet service of the US space exploration technology company SpaceX could still provide users with a high-speed Internet speed of 175Mbps.

SpaceX recently sent an email to testers of the Starlink service beta, stating that they have upgraded the service, including providing a so-called “snowmelt mode” for user terminals. Many users have published test pictures and videos on the Reddit Starlink community, proving that the terminal device can still work normally under extreme weather conditions. In some cases, the internet speed is even faster.

SpaceX satellite Internet service engineers have confirmed that the Starlink user terminal has “self-heating capability in response to various weather conditions” and that the terminal can operate in a temperature range of minus 30 degrees Celsius to minus 40 degrees Celsius. Users who tested the Starlink terminal recently said that there is no problem with the wind and snow, and they also showed screenshots of the network speed reaching 150Mbps.

Other users living in the northern United States claim that their Starlink Internet service speeds will accelerate by an average of 20 Mbps in colder weather. They also said: “My average download speed this morning reached 175Mbps, while the previous average speed was around 150 to 160Mbps.” So far, the fastest internet speed recorded by users is 209.17Mpbs.

However, there are also reports that when the heavy snow starts to fall on the top of the terminal, the speed of Starlink Internet services will slow down, but it will soon pick up.

Although worried about whether the user terminal could survive the strong wind, the user conducted a wind resistance test on his equipment and used a blower to imitate the strong wind at 281 kilometers per hour. According to the user’s speed test before and after the experiment, the download speed is maintained between 110 and 120Mbps. Even if it is windy, the terminal will automatically adjust its direction to maintain the direction of the satellite.
