Samsung Cloud drops support for older Galaxy devices

Samsung has shared that its Cloud app will stop supporting Galaxy phones running Android 8 (Oreo) or earlier Samsung Experience software starting in May 2025. This change will impact older devices that haven’t seen updates in years, as Samsung updates its service to match newer technology.
The Cloud app will still function on these older phones, but it won’t receive new updates or features. Users might notice occasional glitches too. For the best experience with Samsung Cloud’s latest tools, the company suggests switching to a device running Android 9 (Pie) or the modern One UI interface.
Launched in 2017, Android Oreo is nearly eight years old by 2025. Newer systems from Samsung and Google offer advanced features that older phones can’t handle. Samsung Cloud is a helpful service for saving photos, files, app data, and settings, allowing users to back up and retrieve them using a Samsung account.
It also provides free unlimited storage for up to 30 days. This decision comes after Samsung recently phased out support for Android 7 (Nougat) in its Members app. As tech advances, older devices struggle to keep pace. If you’re holding onto an older Galaxy phone, upgrading to a newer model will ensure you can fully use Samsung’s cloud services and stay up to date.
