Samsung might add 24MP mode to its camera app

Samsung

Samsung phones with cameras of 12MP or more usually snap pictures at 12MP by default. This is because of a cool tech called pixel-binning, which helps make photos look great while keeping file sizes small. But there’s a catch: if you want to use the full power of your camera, like 48MP or higher, you lose out on this tech, which means less fancy processing and bigger files.

Now, Apple iPhones give you options: you can shoot in 12MP, full high resolution, or a handy middle ground at 24MP. This 24MP mode lets you have your cake and eat it too – you get the benefits of pixel-binning and smaller file sizes, plus more detail than just 12MP.

Samsung has this 24MP setting too, but it’s only in their ExpertRAW app, which you need to open separately on models like the Galaxy S24 and S25. This isn’t very convenient for everyone. But there’s good news! On Samsung’s community forum in Korea, when a user asked to have this 24MP mode in the main Camera app, a moderator responded positively, hinting that Samsung might be thinking about making this change.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Samsung decides to add this option to all their phones with cameras of 48MP or 50MP or higher. Imagine being able to take 24MP photos not just with the main camera but also with the ultrawide and periscope lenses on phones like the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This would make your photo-taking experience much more versatile and enjoyable.
