One UI 7 Update: Some phones might not get new features

One UI 7

Samsung’s latest One UI 7 update might not bring all the new features to older models like the Galaxy S24, S23, and S22. The reason behind this is that some of these features need a strong processor to work well.

Recently, Sally, who leads the design of Samsung’s user experience, talked about the future of One UI 7. She suggested that some exciting new tools might only be available on the newest phones.

The Galaxy S25 series comes with a bunch of new features and better AI tools. While some of these can work just with software updates, others need new hardware too. This means that older Samsung phones might not get to use all the new AI stuff.

Samsung has been working hard for the last few years to make One UI 7 better. They aim to give Galaxy users a special and smooth software experience. Sally explained that some of the new AI features need a modern processor with a good NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to run properly. For example, the feature ‘Now Brief’ in the Now Bar uses Samsung’s Personal Data Engine, which only works with the latest processors.

Here’s what Sally said about this:

“Features that process data on the phone itself, like the personal data engine, need very powerful chips, like the Snapdragon 8 Elite in the Galaxy S25 Series. These features need strong processing power to work at their best.”

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is a big step up from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It’s made with a new 3nm technology and has Qualcomm’s own Oryon CPU cores, which are quite different from what we’ve seen before.

However, Sally also mentioned that Samsung is looking into cloud-based AI features, which are easier to add to older phones because they don’t need special hardware to function. This way, more users can enjoy some of the new AI capabilities even if their phone’s hardware isn’t the latest.
