No more monthly updates for your Galaxy S21 series

Samsung Galaxy S21 Series

Samsung has decided to change the update schedule for the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra. Instead of monthly security updates, these phones will now get updates every three months. This change comes after these models have been receiving regular updates since they were released in 2021.

For the next year, at least, the original Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra will only see security updates once every quarter. However, the Galaxy S21 FE, which came out later, will still get monthly updates.

The first update of 2025 for the S21 series was in early January. There might be one or two more monthly updates before Samsung fully switches to the new quarterly schedule.

Shortly, the Galaxy S21 models will also see their last big software update with Android 15. Meanwhile, the S21 FE will get Android 16 as its final major update since it started with Android 12, while the others began with Android 11.

If you’re thinking about keeping your S21 for another year, you might want to consider upgrading. The new Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are set to hit the market on February 7, promising seven years of OS and security updates.

Upgrading to the S25 Ultra from an S21 Ultra could be a nice move because of the design similarities. The S25 Ultra, though not as slim as the S21 Ultra, has rounded corners making it easier to hold than the S22, S23, and S24 Ultra models.

This shift in update frequency marks a new chapter for the Galaxy S21 series owners, encouraging them to look forward to what’s new in the Samsung lineup.
