Tom’s Hardware confirmed through multiple sources in the supply chain that the X670 and B650 AM5 platforms only support DDR5 memory. Additionally, AMD has moved the chipsets for its AM5 motherboards to chipset-based designs, so some models will feature dual chips.
Moreover, AMD has announced that its AM5 socket platform will replace the current AM4 platform, supporting PCIe 5.0 and DDR5, but AMD has not officially confirmed that it does not support DDR4.
Additionally, reports say some AM5 socket platforms will support dual chips, only for the flagship X670 chipset, not the mainstream B650 and entry-level A620 chipsets, and there are no details on how these chiplets work.
Furthermore, AMD first introduced its chipset approach when it launched Zen 2 in 2018. Chipset design is a modular way to improve multi-core performance.
