According to the latest report, GM’s transition to an all-electric product lineup has brought a raft of new technologies, including the development of new platforms to support a host of new GM electric vehicle models. According to GM, the GM BT1 platform is neither considered a load-bearing body platform nor a non-load-bearing body platform.

It is reported that Nichole Kraatz, chief engineer of GM’s battery-electric trucks, said in a recent interview that the infrastructure of Chevrolet’s all-electric pickup truck Silverado EV has been confirmed as the BT1 platform.
“It is neither a load-bearing body structure nor a non-load-bearing body structure. We designed a different type of architecture, the body with the floor. And the Ultium battery structure is actually a good part of that architecture, after the body leaves the body axis, the two are connected. So we defined a New vehicle class.”
When asked if there was a specific term to describe the BT1 platform, Nichole Kraatz said, “Actually the term UltiBody was used on my team the other day because we haven’t specified one.”
It should be mentioned that the “Ulti” prefix refers to GM’s Ultium brand, which includes GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium drive motor technology. The GM BT1 architecture underpins GM’s battery-powered pickup trucks and SUVs, including the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, GMC Hummer EV, and the upcoming all-electric Cadillac Escalade.
Moreover, GM’s new BEV3 platform is used to power the company’s all-electric crossovers and sedans, including the Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Celestiq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and Chevrolet Equinox EV.
