Sony’s first drone Airpeak launched at CES 2021, feature an Alpha camera

Sony recently demonstrated its new Airspeak drone at the CES 2021 exhibition, thus entering the drone market.

It is stated that this new drone is the smallest drone capable of carrying an Alpha camera and is specifically used for video content production and professional photography.

There are few specific details about this new drone system, but Sony announced it is exploring the use of drones to shoot landscapes and urban scenery. It showed the effect of Airspeak by tracking and shooting the Vision-S concept car released at CES last time.

The model that Sony demonstrated at CES 2021 this time uses a quadrotor design with two landing gears that can be retracted during a flight to avoid affecting the video shooting effect.

Sony’s President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said that Sony’s drones are designed for ‘adventurous creators.’

It is reported that Airspeak will be listed in the spring, the cost has not been disclosed. It will face competition in the form of consumer-centric drone film production from companies such as DJI, Parrot, and Skydio.

Although Sony has never been involved in drones before, the company’s cameras are at the top level in the industry, so much so that market leader DJI has already provided camera mounts for Sony Alpha products. It is obviously an attractive idea to incorporate this professional ability into customized drone products.
