Microsoft is fixing bug that deletes your passwords in Windows 10

According to a recent report, Microsoft admitted a bug that caused Windows 10 to fail to remember stored passwords in Chrome, Edge, OneDrive, and other applications. This problem seems to happen randomly and on different applications, which makes error tracking more difficult.

The frustrating Windows 10 error basically prevented apps from remembering account credentials. In other words, the affected user must re-enter the user name and password after using the PC at will.

Reports about this issue first appeared in April of this year and will be fixed in the next Windows 10 cumulative update, which is expected to arrive in February or March next year. Some users revealed that the passwords of OneDrive, Outlook, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft account, Google account, Chrome, Adobe CC, and other applications will be forgotten.

According to Google researcher Tavis Ormandy, the task scheduler sometimes loses your credentials stored in LSASS, which is used for the encryption keys of DPAPI users. As a result, the password/credentials are randomly ignored and the user is asked to enter the credentials again.

Microsoft has discovered a permanent solution to this frustrating bug that prevents apps from storing account credentials. The fix is ​​currently being rolled out to Windows Insider project testers.

It is reported that the bug also includes deleting cookies in web browsers, which will be fixed for users in the next optional update, and then pushed to all devices in the “Patch Tuesday”.
