Samsung Display stated on Tuesday that the company will indefinitely extend its production of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels for TVs and monitors in South Korea due to rising demand due to home-related trends during the new crown pandemic.
This decision replaces Samsung’s plan in March to suspend production of LCD panels before the end of this year to focus on more advanced technologies.
Samsung Display stated that the extended term will depend on market conditions. The company stated at the end of October that it was considering a ‘short-term’ extension of LCD production.
Local media earlier quoted South Korean technology industry sources as saying that at the request of Samsung Electronics’ complete manufacturing department, LCD panel production may be extended by one year.
According to data from technology research company TrendForce, global LCD panel demand surged 30% month-on-month in the third quarter of this year due to the home trend triggered by the new crown pandemic.
