As per the plan, Toyota will restart on January 4, but according to the current situation of the British pandemic, it is not known whether this restart date will be delayed.
It reported that after the emergence of the mutant new crown virus, the UK has been collectively ‘quarantined’ by many countries.
The French government has begun to restrict entry from the UK on the 21st. Transport vehicles can travel from France to the UK but cannot return.
In addition, more than 40 countries including Denmark, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Canada have also suspended flights and trains from the UK.
Affected, Toyota’s Decided engine plant in the United Kingdom has been closed from Tuesday, and the Bernerston plant has ceased operations from Wednesday.
The Ao Nang plant in France also stopped production two days in advance, because there is no clear news about how long the border will be closed, so production can only be stopped.
However, the Toyota plant uses a ‘just-in-time’ production method, that is, parts are delivered 4 hours before the start of production, and then put into use immediately, so if there is a slight supply interruption, production will be affected.
Toyota stated in the statement that the decision was ‘to ensure the safety of employees and all stakeholders, especially the safety of logistics partners, and from a social point of view, this suspension of production is also a necessary practice.’
