Vietnam’s first telecom receives license to use 5G band

“Vietnam News Agency” recently reported that the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam formally issued a 5G frequency band license to the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT Group) for commercial testing of 5G networks. This is the first Vietnam operator to get the license.

According to the license signed by the Radio Frequency Bureau of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam, VNPT can use the ground mobile frequency band of the 2600-2690MHz base station and the receiving and transmitting frequency bands to test and evaluate the market and technology before officially operating 5G telecommunication services.

VNPT uses this frequency band from December 16, 2020, to June 30, 2021. The coverage area is Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

VNPT VinaPhone has previously launched 5G mobile network test signals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from the end of November 2020. Mobile users have already experienced the VinaPhone 5G network with a maximum speed of 2.2Gbps, which is 10 times the average speed of the current 4G.
