Huawei delivered more than 3,500 nodes of large-scale OceanStor helping China Mobile’s 5GC project to go online on schedule

China Mobile Group Network Cloud 5GC (5G Core Network Cloud) project was released for commercial use, leading the construction of 5G infrastructure. Huawei delivered more than 3,500 nodes of large-scale OceanStor mass storage with high quality and efficiency, helping China Mobile’s 5GC project to go online on schedule.

China Mobile has fully released the 5GC network cloud construction. Through the cloud construction of 5G infrastructure including network, storage, computing, etc.. while ensuring the provision of high-quality communication and data services for end-users,

It decreases operating costs, improves management, maintenance, and business deployment efficiency, and reduces overall energy consumption, and provide preparations for the rapid release of future innovative businesses.

As a core business system, the 5GC project has extremely stringent requirements on the functions, performance, reliability, and ease of use of the storage system. After half a year of selection testing and bidding, Huawei finally won the bid with the first share.

This 5GC network cloud is exclusively constructed for the deployment of mobile 5GC network components. It is a key step in the construction of China Mobile’s 5G SA network. After completion, it will run various types of 5G services:

  • The first category is the core business network component data traffic that carries key services such as 5G basic voice, data, and messaging.
  • The second category is the network management data traffic. The network layout of the “eight major cities” in the country, including North China, Northeast China, Central China, Southeast China, South China, Southwest, and Northwest China, needs to meet millisecond-level stable low-latency response, multi-regional real-time disaster recovery, Telecom-level delivery requirements such as massive flexible expansion, all-regional manageability, and controllability.

As the first distributed storage provider to enter China Mobile’s core business on a large scale, Huawei has successfully delivered 2000 storage nodes in the first phase of China Mobile’s network cloud project to support the stable operation of 4G services.

With the successful experience of the first phase, in the face of the larger delivery scale of 3500 nodes in the second phase, Huawei and China Mobile Group, with the close cooperation and coordination of the two parties, successfully delivered the project according to the delivery milestone, and commercialized it in September to help 5G The scale of business goes online.

The 5GC solution uses Huawei OceanStor mass storage as the base, the first type of storage resources are built based on SAS HDD main memory, and the second type of storage pool is built based on SAS HDD combined with SATA HDD main memory that is Huawei NFV cloud platform and third-party cloud platform Provide efficient, reliable, manageable and controllable storage services.
