Android 16 and 15 rollout stirs up confusion about Samsung’s 7-year update promise

Android 16

Lately, people have been confused by the news that Android 16 and Android 15 have been released by Samsung. Some people are thinking about how these updates will affect Samsung’s promise to provide software updates for seven years to a select group of smartphones.

At the start of the year, Samsung made a major announcement. According to their statement, the latest Galaxy phones are promised updates for seven years. This is noteworthy since almost all other phone makers provide updates for just a limited duration. A lot of people welcomed this promise.

At this time, as Android 16 is talked about, some fans end up confused with Android 15. They assume that with the launch of these Android updates, Samsung will eliminate its seven-year update policy. This isn’t the case. The seven-year promise only means that Samsung will support the phone for that long, despite the Android version updates.

For instance, if the phone uses Android 14, it could get updates supported for seven years. As a result, the device could receive Android 16, 17, or some other updates based on its initial release and Samsung’s schedule. Receiving support for up to seven years matters more than which version of Android the phone has.

All in all, the new Android versions do not affect what Samsung strives for. Updates on Galaxy phones will continue for seven years and which version of Android these updates end on may differ for every phone.
