One UI 8 to improve battery protection features on Galaxy phones

Samsung One UI 8

Samsung is getting ready to include stronger battery protection features in the upcoming One UI 8 update. With the update, a new feature called “Protect Battery” may have three modes, so users can manage their phone’s battery charging and enjoy a longer battery life.

The current setting on Samsung phones caps charging to 85% through the “Protect Battery” system so the battery is not overworked. However, in the upcoming One UI 8, Samsung is trying out three new ideas:

  • Basic: Letting the battery of your phone reach an 80% charge is beneficial to slow down aging.
  • Adaptive: Notices your usual daily use and slows the charging process at 80%. It then starts charging to 100% right before you typically take your phone off the charger.
  • Maximum: Charges the battery to its maximum only when it is required.

The new features give Galaxy users the ability to choose the setting that works best for them. It makes it possible to ensure your battery is healthy while still enjoying all the benefits of a fully charged device.

The new battery protection feature appeared in the recent test version of One UI 8 based on Android 15. The Samsung One UI 8 is likely to come out in the later part of 2023, most probably after Android 15 and the new Galaxy Z foldables.

Because of these updates, it seems Samsung is really committed to helping people use their phone battery wisely. This move brings Galaxy gadgets that much closer to being smarter and easier to use.
