Samsung explores new display tech for cars and the company files lawsuit against Indian policy

Samsung

Samsung is planning to use a special kind of OLED screen technology—first seen in Apple’s iPads—for its in-car displays. This technology, called tandem OLED, has better brightness, lasts longer, and uses less power than regular OLEDs. It’s already used in Apple’s iPad Pro and could be perfect for vehicles, where displays need to handle bright daylight and last for years.

To make this happen, Samsung is teaming up with software companies like LG and Luxoft to build digital systems for cars. They aim to offer better displays and software that can enhance the driving experience.

At the same time, Samsung is facing a challenge in India. The company has taken legal action against the Indian government’s new e-waste policy. The rules now require electronics companies to pay more for recycling older products. Samsung argues that the increase is too high and doesn’t follow the usual process of public consultation.

The new Indian policy wants companies to recycle 60% of e-waste from products made in 2023–24 and 70% from those made in 2024–25. Samsung says this could hurt business and create unfair pressure. The company is currently fighting the rule in the Delhi High Court.

So, while Samsung works on improving display tech for cars, it’s also pushing back against rules it sees as too demanding in one of its key markets.
