Samsung might be testing Android 16 with One UI 8 on more devices

One UI 8

Samsung recently opened up the One UI 7 Beta to more than just the Galaxy S24 lineup. Now, there’s exciting news: the company could already be working on One UI 8, based on Android 16, for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. And it doesn’t stop there—rumors suggest testing has expanded to other devices, too.

Surprisingly, Samsung may have started trying out Android 16 with One UI 8 on its foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. This comes after the S25 Ultra was seen running Android 16 on a tool called CheckFirm. A user on X, KeepUPwithOneUI, found test versions labeled CYC1 for these foldables, hinting at a big software jump from A to C—likely meaning Android 16.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 originally came with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1. Their next big update will be Android 15 with One UI 7, shifting the software letter from A to B. After that, it seems Samsung is already preparing for the C update—Android 16 with One UI 8.

This testing might tie into the public rollout of One UI 7, expected around April or later. While One UI 7 is still in the works, Samsung appears to be moving fast with Android 16 testing for One UI 8, possibly arriving sooner than the delayed One UI 7.

The Galaxy S25 series launched with Android 15, marked as A. A test version spotted recently showed a B label, and now the foldables’ C label points to Android 16. Samsung seems eager to stay ahead in the software game.

One UI 7 brings the biggest look-and-feel changes since Samsung started One UI. The next version, One UI 8, might keep most of these updates while smoothing out the design and improving how it feels to use, all built on Android 16.
