Samsung’s new Tri-Fold phone might be small and work with the S Pen

Samsung Tri-Fold

Samsung fans have mixed feelings about the S Pen lately. The company dropped it completely from last year’s Galaxy Z Fold SE and even simplified the S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra by removing Bluetooth. But here’s some good news: Samsung’s first tri-fold phone might return the classic S Pen and be smaller than expected, based on a new patent.

Samsung has been designing this tri-fold phone for a while, but it didn’t beat Huawei. Huawei’s Mate XT, a tri-fold device, is already out worldwide. Still, Samsung’s version could stand out with its unique style, thanks to clues from this patent.

A website called 91mobiles found this patent in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s records. It was approved just a day ago, on February 25, 2025, so these ideas are fresh. Unlike older patents that might show outdated plans, this one feels current.

The tri-fold phone, possibly named the Galaxy G Fold, might fold inward on both sides. Huawei’s Mate XT folds in a zigzag way, letting its main screen double as the outer display. Samsung’s design, however, uses a separate outer screen, which keeps the foldable one safer inside. When folded, it could be short and wide, more like the Galaxy Z Flip than the taller Galaxy Z Fold 6. That’s a surprise compared to earlier guesses of a longer shape.

The patent also includes a spot for the S Pen, hinting that this phone could support Samsung’s popular stylus. You’d find the volume and power buttons up top, with a USB-C port at the bottom for charging.

It’s Just an Idea for Now

This is still just a patent, so there’s no promise it’ll turn out exactly like this. Samsung might go with a bigger, more typical design instead. We’ll need to wait a bit longer for the full scoop. Leaks say the Galaxy G Fold could have a 9.96-inch foldable inner screen—bigger than the 7.6 inches on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Huawei’s Mate XT tops that with 10.2 inches, but Samsung’s outer screen might measure 6.54 inches, adding some extra flair.
