Android 16 brings easy security with upcoming One UI 8

Android 16 introduces a simple way to keep your phone safe with a one-click feature called Advanced Protection, which might soon be available on Samsung devices with One UI. Google has recently put out Android 16 Beta 2 for Pixel phones, including a new tool named AdvancedProtectionManager. This tool lets apps check if you’re using Advanced Protection.
This new tool makes apps more secure by adding a strong layer of safety. Apps can adjust their own security settings depending on whether you’ve signed up for Advanced Protection. In simple terms, if you’ve chosen Advanced Protection, apps that support it will automatically turn on extra security features without you having to do anything.
For example, an app like Signal might automatically lock the screen and stop people from taking screenshots. The Advanced Protection mode is still being worked on and will work fully when Google adds a special page for it in Google Play Services.
Samsung is currently focusing on getting One UI 7 ready, which is based on Android 15, for Galaxy phones. They plan to release it in the first three months of 2025. One UI 8, based on Android 16, isn’t expected to launch until the Samsung Developer Conference in October this year.
Advanced Protection Details
With more risks from AI and other new technologies, Google is enhancing security with Android 16’s Advanced Protection. This feature requires you to use a security key or passkey to log into your Google account, stops downloads of potentially dangerous files, and prevents you from installing apps from unknown sources. Android 16 boosts your phone’s security and reliability. When you turn on Advanced Protection, it will also disable 2G connections and activate Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) for apps that support it.
