New Android 16 Beta brings advanced camera tools

Android 16

While Samsung is still working on the Android 15 update, Google has moved ahead with the release of the second beta of Android 16. This update is packed with enhancements, especially for those who love photography and video.

Advanced Camera Features in Android 16 Beta 2:

  • Hybrid Auto-Exposure: Now, third-party apps can tweak parts of the camera’s exposure settings while still relying on automatic adjustments for the rest. This means you can control elements like ISO or exposure time for more professional results.
  • Color Temperature and Tint Adjustments: You can now fine-tune the color balance in video apps, making your footage look just right.

Other Notable Updates:

  • Full-Screen Apps: Apps will now cover the entire screen, giving you more space to work with.
  • Enhanced TV Experience: Apps on TVs can now adjust audio and video settings on the fly for the best viewing experience.
  • Live Wallpaper Enhancements: Your home and lock screens can now show different live wallpaper content, making your device more personalized.
  • Custom Measurement Settings: You can choose your preferred measurement units, like inches or Celsius, even if your phone is set to a different language.
  • Motion Photo Support: A new standard for capturing and viewing motion photos has been introduced, making sharing these dynamic images easier.
  • Quick Wallet Access: Double-pressing the power button can now open your wallet app, like Google Wallet on Pixel phones.
  • Ultra HDR Improvements: Now includes support for HEIC format for Ultra HDR images, previously limited to JPG, with plans for AVIF format support. This update also enhances how colors and brightness are managed in photos.

When Can We Expect the Stable Version?

Google is aiming to roll out the stable version of Android 16 around June 2025. If Samsung’s updates are indeed delayed, there might be a gap before their devices get Android 16, potentially labeled as One UI 8.0.

This beta is available for Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series onwards, including the Pixel Tablet, allowing developers and early adopters to test these new features before the official release.
