Samsung suggests old phones might miss out on new One UI feature

One UI 7

Samsung’s latest update, One UI 7.0, introduces a bunch of cool new tools, but not all of them will work on older Galaxy phones. According to a Samsung executive, some of these new features need strong, new hardware to function properly.

In a recent chat, Sally, who leads Samsung’s software team, talked about the development of One UI 7.0. She explained that they’ve been working on this update for about two to three years, focusing on both design and functionality. She pointed out that certain features, especially those driven by artificial intelligence, demand modern hardware.

One such feature is “Now Brief,” which gives you handy information based on what time it is. This feature uses Samsung’s Personal Data Engine, which needs a chip with a robust NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

“As this feature needs a lot of processing power for the best experience, older phones might not get it,” Sally explained. She added that other features like “Circle to Search” can still be used on older models because they use cloud services, which don’t strain the phone’s hardware as much. “For our budget phones, we’re always looking at what users need and providing AI features through the cloud, so they can enjoy them without needing the latest hardware,” she said.

So, while Samsung aims to roll out all One UI 7.0 features to as many devices as possible, some advanced features will only be available on devices with the right hardware. This means owners of older Galaxy phones might not see all the new bells and whistles in their software updates.
