Samsung’s new update makes screen time safer for kids

Samsung’s latest software update, One UI 7, now available on the Galaxy S25 series, introduces new tools to help parents keep their children’s screen time safe. These tools allow parents to decide what content their kids can view and interact with on their devices.

One of the major additions is a content filter in the Samsung Internet app. This feature helps block websites that have inappropriate or harmful content like violence or adult material. While no filter is perfect, this one does a good job at keeping a lot of bad stuff out.

Another useful feature is the control over app downloads from the Galaxy Store. Parents can set a “maximum rating” limit, ensuring that only apps suitable for their child’s age are available to download. Options include ratings like “All Ages,” “12+,” “16+,” or “18+,” making sure kids only see apps that are right for them.

These new control features are tucked away in the “Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls” section of your device’s settings. They’re likely to pop up when you’re setting up a child’s device, and any changes to these settings would need a parent’s okay.

There’s also talk that this update might let parents approve app downloads or purchases in advance, but that’s not set in stone yet.

Right now, these safety features are just on the Galaxy S25, but as Samsung rolls out One UI 7 to more phones and tablets, you can expect these tools to show up on other devices as well.
