Have you ever thought about playing video games on your smartwatch after a tiring day at work? Probably not! Yet, a clever developer has shown us it’s possible by bringing Minecraft to their Galaxy Watch 4.
This kind of feat isn’t that rare anymore. Many tech enthusiasts out there love to push the limits of what devices can do, even if they weren’t meant for it. For instance, there was someone who managed to run a PSP emulator on their Galaxy Watch 5 to play games like “God of War: Chains of Olympus.” This shows that our smartwatches might be more capable than we give them credit for.
Getting Minecraft to run on a Galaxy Watch 4 is quite an achievement, especially since this watch model is a few years old now. It uses Samsung’s Exynos W920 chip from 2021, which isn’t the latest or greatest. Yet, with some determination, u/International-dish78 made it happen.
It’s worth mentioning this is the Pocket Edition of Minecraft, which isn’t as demanding on graphics or processing power. The user shared a video of this unusual setup, speeded up to fit into a minute and a half, but in reality, it took over 10 minutes to get into the game.
The game’s interface wasn’t made for such a tiny screen. The controls take up a good chunk of the display, the inventory is barely visible, and only a few buttons are accessible. So, while it’s technically possible to play, it’s not the most practical or comfortable gaming experience. This was more like a test to see if it could be done at all.
Samsung certainly didn’t design the Galaxy Watch 4 with the idea of playing open-world games in mind. However, the fact that someone managed to do it is truly impressive. It makes us wonder what other exciting projects people might come up with next.
