New Feature: Control your home easily with Gemini

Gemini

Google has made it easier to manage your smart home devices by adding a new Google Home Extension to the Gemini app on Android phones. This update means you can now use Gemini to manage your smart gadgets without needing Google Assistant.

With this extension, you can talk to Gemini in a more natural way to control things around your house. For instance, if you say, “It’s too bright in here,” Gemini can close the curtains for you.

Here’s how you can turn on this feature:

  • Start the Gemini app on your Android device.
  • Click on your profile picture or icon at the top right of the screen.
  • Go to the ‘Extensions’ section and turn on Google Home.

Google is slowly making this feature available to everyone, so you might see it in the next few weeks.

More About the Google Home Extension

Google first introduced the Google Home Extension for Gemini back in November, but only for those in the Google Home Public Preview. Now, it’s becoming available for everyone to enjoy.

Also, Google has added new capabilities for Gemini to work with apps that come with Samsung Galaxy phones like the Calendar, Clock, Notes, and Reminder apps. These are only for newer Samsung phones with One UI 7.0 software, like the Galaxy S24 and S25, but more devices will get this update soon.
