Earlier this year, Google introduced its new AI-powered assistant, Gemini, to Android phones and tablets. However, compared to Google Assistant, Gemini lacked extensive third-party integrations. Slowly, Google is bridging that gap by incorporating more third-party app support. One of the most exciting developments is that Spotify and WhatsApp integration for Gemini is coming soon, enhancing its functionality for Galaxy devices and beyond.
Gemini to Get Spotify and WhatsApp Integration Soon
Google is actively working on multiple third-party integrations for Gemini, two of which include Spotify and WhatsApp. According to a report from Android Authority, the beta version (15.40.31.29) of Gemini has hidden extensions that will support Google Messages, Spotify, and WhatsApp. Currently, while Gemini can send WhatsApp messages, it does so through Google Assistant. The new update will provide a more direct and seamless experience.
The screenshot from the beta suggests that Gemini will soon feature a dedicated extension for WhatsApp, which will allow users to send and edit messages before they’re sent. Over time, the AI will learn which apps users prefer for calling and messaging specific contacts, streamlining the communication process. For example, if you often use WhatsApp to call a particular contact, Gemini will adjust accordingly and use that platform by default.
In addition, Gemini’s integration with Google Messages will work similarly. Users will be able to send messages and even make last-minute edits before dispatching them. However, at this stage, the AI is not yet able to retrieve messages from Google Messages, meaning you won’t be able to ask Gemini to display your last sent message.
Spotify Extension Enhances Music Playback
Along with communication apps, Gemini is also set to enhance its media playback capabilities. An extension for Spotify has been spotted in the beta version, allowing users to ask Gemini to play specific songs or albums. Once the music starts, album art will be displayed on the screen, and users can tap the image to be redirected to the Spotify app. This functionality will make hands-free music playback much easier, especially while multitasking or driving.
Testing Phase and Future Rollout
These new extensions for Gemini have been discovered by those experimenting with Gemini’s APK file, but they are not yet publicly available. Google appears to be in the testing phase, and once the development process is complete, these features are expected to be released for public use. With these updates, Gemini will become much more versatile, bringing it closer to the functionality currently offered by Google Assistant.
The exciting part is that once these updates roll out, users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets will be able to take advantage of these features. However, it’s unclear if Gemini’s Spotify and WhatsApp integration will extend to Wear OS smartwatches, such as the Galaxy Watch 7 or Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Future Potential of Gemini
Google’s continuous improvement of Gemini with new third-party extensions suggests that more app integrations could be on the horizon. This could turn Gemini into a highly capable assistant for managing day-to-day tasks, from sending messages to controlling music and potentially integrating with more popular apps in the future.
As we look forward to the rollout of these features, it is clear that Google is positioning Gemini to become a strong competitor to its predecessor, Google Assistant, especially with its growing support for essential apps like WhatsApp and Spotify. Once these extensions are live, the user experience on Galaxy devices is expected to be greatly improved, making tasks more seamless and user-friendly.
