Inactive Google Accounts will be deleted soon, here’s how to safeguard your Gmail

Posted on

Gmail users are worried as their inactive Google accounts are at the edge of being deleted. The company will begin this deletion starting December 2023. A major reason behind this step is to reduce security threats like spam, phishing scams, and account hijacking.

Notably, for those accounts that remain stagnant for at least two years, the tech giant will delete them including content within Google Workspace and Photos. But don’t worry, as here is how you can save your accounts.

How to prevent your Gmail accounts from being deleted by Google?

In order to safeguard your account, a simple trick you can apply is keeping the account active. Sign in at least once every 2 years and use some services. Doing so will mark the ‘active’ label to your account and Google won’t delete it.

Some other actions that you can take while signed in to your Google account:

  • Reading or sending an email
  • Using Google Drive
  • Watching a YouTube video
  • Downloading an app on the Google Play Store
  • Using Google Search
  • Using sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service
