What is macOS 14.1 Webcam issue? How to fix it on your Apple Mac

Posted on

Apple macOS 14.1 recently made its way to Mac owners with a defect that has created a webcam issue. Eventually, the update pulled out the legacy camera and video system extension support due to which users are unable to perform relevant operations.

However, here is a rescue point that will help you in restoring the respective capability. Before proceeding, ensure a restart and complete shut down of the device so that the solution may not hamper other aspects.

How to fix the Apple macOS 14.1 webcam issue?

  • Switch off your Apple Mac device
  • Turn on the device in Recovery Mode by pressing the power button
  • Tap Options > Continue
  • Select the Utilities menu and click on Terminal
  • Enter: system-override legacy-camera-plugins-without-sw-camera-indication=on
  • Click Return and follow the on-screen steps
  • Quit the Terminal and restart the device

After restarting the device, you will see a warning in System Settings. Visit the Privacy & Security section and select Camera. If legacy video support has been successfully restored, ‘the green dot not appearing in the menu bar’ prompt will show up.
