Apple added People Detection in iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max Models. It was the section of iOs 14.2. The feature was first used in September 2020 and is now an inherent part of the Apple smartphone models.
People Detection:
This is one of the accessibility features. It utilizes Apple’s accessibility technologies, on-device artificial intelligence, the Neural Engine, People occlusion in ARKit, Voice Over, and the iPhone’s LiDAR scanner to help in identifying people using the iPhone camera and informs you their distance.

Apart from distance, this feature also explains to you whether you are walking straight or at an angle away from the person. People Detection app will notify you with speech, sound, or a haptic notification. You will be notified in a continual way when a person will come closer to you.
