Intel will develop new 3D game technology

This Intel project is led by Anton Kaplanyan, vice president of accelerated computing and graphics, who is also a GPU technology expert. He joined Intel last year and was previously the chief scientist at Facebook, working on super neural sampling. For many years, he has been working in Research and developing computer graphics, involving neural rendering, game engines, and more.

However, his most eye-catching experience was at NVIDIA, where he worked for 2 years and 2 months from 2015 to 2017, mainly researching technologies in light pursuit, noise reduction, and scaling, during which he published a paper on neural super sampling, Laid the foundation for NVIDIA’s DLSS deep learning supersampling.

Now that Intel is a company, one of the focuses of his research on game technology is a new rendering technology – path tracing, which can simulate the physical behavior of light more realistically, which is more advanced than the light tracing technology currently used by AMD and NVIDIA, and the game picture quality is also improved.

Of course, there are costs. Path tracing technology requires more complex calculations and high-performance requirements. Moreover, there are very few games currently supported. The demos are also done in games such as “quake II” and “Minecraft”. Software patches allow these games to support new technologies.

In addition to the new game rendering technology, Anton Kaplanyan’s team has also made progress in deep learning technology, which can be used to improve graphics accuracy and performance. Intel’s XeSS super sampling scaling technology is also in this regard, after all, this field is also Anton Kaplanyan’s Old line.

Of course, these new technologies will definitely support Intel’s own Arc graphics card, but it is impossible to predict when it will be upgraded. After all, the light pursuit is not popular now, and the performance is still not enough.
