According to reports, Robert Hallock pointed out that Intel has been using an iterative design of the Skylake core, which has been limited in chip size as the core size has become larger. Intel has struggled to increase the number of large cores due to size issues. AMD’s Zen architecture core is much smaller by comparison.
Furthermore, the sources believe that although AMD does not need to adopt a hybrid architecture of large and small cores yet, its patent shows that the company is already working on such a design. It is not clear whether the patent will be used in the Zen series itself, or if AMD will launch a new processor separately.
