Microsoft may release XGP family members for Xbox

Posted on

According to the latest report, Microsoft seems to be planning to fill a short board in its Xbox Game Pass (XGP) service. WindowsCentral, citing sources, said Xbox is moving forward with an Xbox Game Pass family membership program, which could be slated for sometime this year.

Sources mentioned that the XGP Family Membership Program allows a total of five players, including the main account, and is much cheaper than paying for five separate XGP accounts.

Moreover, Xbox Game Pass is a game subscription service provided by Microsoft that allows you to play hundreds of games for a relatively low monthly fee, and supports playing cloud games on PC, Xbox consoles, or mobile devices.

But until now, Xbox Game Pass has never offered an Xbox Game Pass “family plan” of any kind, and platforms like Nintendo, Disney+, and Netflix already offer family plans for their online services.

While Microsoft is working on a “family plan,” the issue of fees and details on how third-party publishers will open up the game’s licenses are up for debate, the sources said. According to reliable sources close to Microsoft, Xbox Game Pass family plans are being pushed forward within Xbox, possibly sometime this year.

At the moment, purchasing a higher-level Xbox Game Pass family membership allows 5 players to share the game library, which is more cost-effective than purchasing 5 separate XGP accounts.

Previously, Microsoft Office 365 has introduced a family account system. It is expected that XGP family members can enable players in the same country to use sub-accounts of the same main account to play games together, which is very similar to the well-known Netflix subscription method.
