Global spending on fab equipment for front-end facilities expected to grow 18%: SEMI 

According to Semiconductor Industry Association International, global spending on fab equipment for front-end facilities is expected to grow 18% year-over-year and reach a record high of $107 billion in 2022. It would also mark the third consecutive year of growth following a 42% increase in 2021.

Global fab equipment spending crossed the $100 billion mark for the first time, a historic milestone for the semiconductor industry,” SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha said in a press release.

Moreover, Taiwan is expected to lead fab equipment spending in 2022. Investment in Taiwan is expected to rise 56 percent year-on-year to $35 billion, followed by South Korea at $26 billion, up 9 percent, while mainland China will spend $17.5 billion, down 30 percent from last year’s peak, SEMI said.

Furthermore, spending in Europe/Middle East is expected to hit a record $9.6 billion this year, a relatively small but 248% year-over-year increase.
