Apple iPhone 14 might come with perforated screen design

Before the release of the Apple iPhone 13 series, there has been news that the iPhone 14 series will switch to a perforated screen design. Now analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said that Apple will abandon the bangs design that began in 2017 in 2022, use a more common perforated screen design with less presence, and will also be equipped with an autofocus camera sensor.

With the endless bursts of news, major analysts also gave their own opinions. For example, the source said about Apple’s supply chain companies’ supply of screens for the next generation of Apple’s new products.

Moreover, the first is Samsung which is one of the top players. It has already supplied Apple with almost all OLED screens; LG follows closely behind, and the OLED screens used by BOE, which recently won the contract, maybe relatively weak.

According to earlier rumors, not all new iPhone models will use an improved screen. Analysts have speculated that older, cheaper, and less popular models will still be stuck in the bang’s design. But how many models are eligible or have the opportunity to upgrade the screen, more depends on how many screens Samsung and other companies can provide.

However, Samsung Display, LG Display, and BOE currently in Apple’s supply chain reacted differently to this forecast. According to reports, Samsung Display can currently provide 100% iPhone 13 Pro OLED panels.

In addition, its perforated OLED displays have been used in smartphones from major manufacturers. According to the analysis of market experts, Samsung Display can maintain its high market share through its experience in the new iPhone.

Although LG Display does not currently provide perforated screens, it is said that the company can easily manufacture perforated OLED panels, but at present, the main focus of the company’s cooperation with Apple is the LTPO TFT aspect of the iPhone Pro model.

Finally, BOE is the one that everyone cares about most. There is no doubt that BOE has relatively more experience in the development and manufacturing of perforated screens. However, the industry generally believes that its OLED technology is inferior to its Korean counterparts.

At Apple’s request, the Chinese company is also developing a corresponding LTPO TFT OLED display, but it is expected to start mass production in 2023 at the earliest. This means that its supply of display panels to Apple may be limited to non-Pro models for some time.
