Amazon Web Services announced launch of Amazon EC2 M6a instances

According to the latest report, Amazon Web Services (AWS), recently announced the launch of Amazon EC2 M6a instances, using the third-generation AMD EPYC Xiaolong 7003 series processors.

AWS said that compared with the previous generation of M5a instances, the new product’s price-performance ratio is up to 35% higher, while at the same time it reduces the cost of x86-based EC2 instances by 10%.

Moreover, AMD’s third-generation EPYC processor is designed for data centers and is based on the AMD Infinity architecture Zen 3 core. The product has a maximum of 64 cores, provides 128 PCIe 4.0 channels, supports 16 DIMM slots, and has a maximum of 4TB memory.

Advantages of the M6a instance include:

  • Certified by SAP, it is an ideal choice for workloads such as network and application servers, back-end servers that support enterprise applications, microservices, multiplayer game servers, cache clusters, and application development environments.

  • You can choose from ten sizes, two more instance sizes (32xlarge and 48xlarge) than M5a. The 48xlarge size supports up to 192 vCPUs and 768 GiB of memory, which is twice the maximum size of the M5a instance.

  • It supports up to 50 Gbps of network bandwidth and 40 Gbps of Amazon Elastic Block Store, which is more than twice that of M5a instances.

  • The new instance is built on the AWS Nitro System, which is a combination of dedicated hardware and lightweight hypervisors that can provide almost all computing performance and memory resources in the host hardware to the instance.

The official said that there will be more examples using the CPU in the future. The latest AWS M6a instance based on the third-generation AMD EPYC processor is available today in AWS US East Node (Northern Virginia), US West Node (Oregon), European Node (Ireland), and Asia Pacific Node (Mumbai).
